Battleground 2019 has turned out to be a bitter campaign among the contesting parties, but this is an election that will also be remembered for how the Election Commission has conducted itself. The Election Commission has been one of India's most respected institutions but today it finds itself at the heart of scathing criticism. They acted against some political leaders for violating the model code of conduct only after a strong rebuke from the Supreme Court. But after a series of complaints against the PM for violating the model code, PM Modi has got a clean in six cases. Four out of these have seen dissent by one election commissioner.
