In order to make women from marginalised communities more self-sufficient, USHA Silai School program was born eight years ago. Since then, the program has received tremendous support and partnered with public and private sectors. The recent ones to support the program are Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL) and North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO). Through teaching sewing, while WII is providing an alternative source of income to women of Uttar Pradesh, NEEPCO is giving an additional source of income to women of Assam. Similarly, NCL has set up a sewing centre with 30 high tech sewing machines to provide training and job opportunity to women and girls of rural areas.
