The famished roads of Madhya Pradesh
A new diet, RUTF or Ready to Use Therapeutic Food, has been started by UNICEF for the severely malnourished children of Khandwa in Madhya Pradesh. Children on an RUTF diet put on weight almost instantly. In a district where 64 children have died of malnutrition since July 2008, RUTF seems almost miraculous, until you see its limitations on the ground.
