On Livestream today, we look at the battle for Mumbai's green lungs - the 1,300 hectare Aarey forest in the city's northern suburb of Goregaon. The Maharashtra government is adamant about turning a part of this ecologically sensitive zone for a Metro car shed. Environmentalists and citizens' groups oppose this, saying Aarey is home to over a thousand plus species including leopards as it borders the Sanjay Gandhi National Park. This is one of the few green spots left in maximum city, which has already witnessed maximum encroachment. The government says only 3 per cent of the area has been earmarked for a car shed for Mumbai Metro's third phase. Should a Metro project that will potentially reduce pollution go ahead or should the little greenery that the city still possesses be spared?
