The maternal death audit
The health cadre and infrastructure that Tamil Nadu has built up is almost like an island of hope and inspiration for the rest of the country. Here every maternal death has to be reported. This is followed by an institutional audit and also what is called a verbal autopsy, in which relatives are asked to narrate events leading up to the death of the mother.
