MGNREGA is the world's biggest social welfare programme launched in 2005, soon after the Congress-led UPA government came to power for the first time. Supported by all political parties, it promised 100 days of work annually for a fixed minimum wage to nearly 50 million rural households. Over the next few years we reported on the success stories and failures of MNREGA and whether it had impacted the purchasing power of the poor or changed nothing.
