Throwing waste into water bodies will attract a jail term in Kerala. As per the new ordinance introduced by the state government, dumping "rubbish, filth or excreta in any water course" will attract a jail term of two years and a fine of upto Rs. 3 lakh for violators. The Ordinance is pending the Governor's approval.
