Diesel has hit a record high in India. Today the government allowed prices to be raised for the first time in 20 days. It had effectively frozen prices of both diesel and petrol on April 24th in the run-up to the Karnataka voting. Today, on the first working day post-polling, diesel prices were raised by 21 paise, touching Rs 74.80 in the capital and Rs 82.65 in Mumbai and petrol by 17 paise, hitting the highest since Prime Minister Narendra Modi took over.
