While the Sethusamudram channel is being fought in the Supreme Court, for over a lakh fishermen in Rameswaram it's the settlement of the Katchatheevu issue that matters most. It's an island that the Indian government had gifted to Sri Lanka in 1974. But over the years their fishing area has shrunk. And over the last twenty years, around two hundred Indian fishermen from Tamil Nadu have fallen prey to bullets fired by the Lankan navy for trespassing into Lankan waters.
