India will have 60 percent of the population vaccinated by mid-2021 if the daily rate of vaccination is increased from the current two to three million doses per day to 9 million doses per day. That is enough to prevent a third wave, but the heterogeneity of how states are implementing the vaccination may make it difficult to stop third wave from hitting 29 percent of India in certain hotspots in states that are not efficient about vaccination.
