The Supreme Court, in a landmark judgement, today said that religion has no place in electoral process. In a 4:3 majority verdict, the top court said that election is a secular exercise and no politician can seek vote in the name of caste, creed or religion. On The Buck Stops Here, we debate: is the verdict implementable? Which party will be the most hit? Is identity politics all bad or does it give a voice to traditionally marginalised communities? The Supreme Court's 1995 judgment terming Hindutva a way of life still stands as today's verdict didn't go into this issue. How does today's verdict reconcile with the 'Hindutva' judgement?
