Traffic penalties hiked 5-fold: Will fines act as deterrents?
India has the worst road safety record in the world - Over 1 lakh 30 thousand people die annually. Today, the government cleared a Bill which will increase fines as much as five times with longer jail terms. But will this increase in fines result in traffic offenders mending their ways or will it just lead to larger bribes?
