Triple Talaq Banned: One Step Closer To Uniform Civil Code?
'Talaq Talaq Talaq does not mean instant divorce. It is unconstitutional and not integral to religious practice and violates constitutional morality.' That was the Supreme Court in a majority judgement today, ruling on one of the most controversial and contentious practices that has been intensely debated. Groups that were against the ban say they are not in favour of the courts or government getting involved with religious matters but the government firmly backed the petitioners saying it was about gender parity. So does this mean we are one step closer to a uniform civil code?
