In today's episode of India Global, U.S. President Donald Trump has announced 25% tariffs on imported cars, effective April 2nd. The new levies mark an escalation in Trump's trade war against top U.S. trading partners and allies - Mexico and Canada were among the U.S' biggest automotive suppliers last year. Trump said the measure would lead to "tremendous growth" for the industry, promising it would spur jobs and investment in the US. He also said duties would prompt companies to manufacture in the US, though analysts say the move is likely to lead to the temporary shutdown of significant car production in the U.S, increase prices, and strain relations with allies. NDTV's Gaurie Dwivedi speaks with Senior automotive expert Tutu Dhawan, Senior Economist Santosh Mehrotra, and Partner - Taxation, White & Brief Advocates Prateek Bansal to discuss this and more.
