Digging for a tubewell led to a large pit being formed in Rajasthan's Jaisalmer due to the sudden release of water and gas on Saturday. Officials said the cave-in occurred after digging was done at a depth of 850 feet. A groundwater scientist explained that built-up pressure from water and gas under the surface caused the cave-in. Water was seen shooting up to 3-4 feet and villagers were asked to stay away from the area.
