Uttarakhand has become the first state to implement the Uniform Civil Code. The Uttarakhand UCC will address issues related to marriage, divorce, succession, and live-in relationships, establishing a uniform set of laws applicable to all citizens, regardless of their religion. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami called the implementation of the UCC a significant achievement and a fulfilment of the BJP's commitment to voters, a promise delivered. In fact, in his Independence Day speech, PM Narendra Modi referred to the Supreme Court's direction on the need for a common code, stressing that fulfilling the vision of the Constitution framers remains a national goal. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also expected to visit Dehradun tomorrow. So what exactly is the path ahead for a national code? Will more States follow suit? Is this about reforms, politics or both?
