About one in 50 people in London is homeless. Sleeping rough in London has increased by 21% in just the last year. Over 4 million children in the UK suffer from food poverty. Ironically, London also produces nearly 2 million tonnes of food waste every year. The Jalaram Greenford Community collects over 400 tonnes of food from supermarkets to prevent food wastage and reaches London every Friday to serve it to the homeless. These volunteers include solicitors, engineers, doctors and pensioners from the Indian community.
