In election season, the government's handling of the Ukraine crisis has inevitably acquired a political edge. Stung by criticism that it is not doing enough to help rescue Indians stranded in Ukraine, videos of which have flooded social media, the government has gone into damage control mode. In somewhat of a reversal from its earlier responses, where partly it appeared to blame the students for ignoring multiple advisories to vacate the country, the government now seems to want to convey a sense of urgency and empathy.
