"Unacceptable": P Chidambaram On PM's Advice To States On Fuel Prices
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's request to opposition-ruled states to reduce the Value Added Tax (VAT) on fuel "in the spirit of cooperative federalism" was termed an "unacceptable suggestion" by veteran Congress leader P Chidambaram. "The only taxing power which gives some revenue to states are VAT and excise duties on liquor, the rest are pretty irrelevant taxes," said Mr Chidambaram.
