"We (Indian Army) have a concept of unlimited liability. A man faces terrorists, and he faces them sometimes with certainty that he could lose his life. That's the ethos (of the Indian Army). You have to lead your men, you have to motivate them and make sure that always, always you are a leader," Lt Gen DS Hooda, Northern Army Commander, said while remembering Col Santosh Mahadik. Calling him a "very brave officer" Gen Hooda said that Col Mahadik was an officer who always led from the front "and you have this example in the last operation... where he was with the soldiers, with the men, he was chasing these terrorists and in this he paid the ultimate price".
