UP's encephalitis horror: Over 300 child deaths this year
Akhilesh Yadav, who has completed six months in office, had pledged more than Rs 5000 crore for health schemes in his maiden budget as chief minister. But 302 deaths of children due to encephalitis this year is a grim reminder of how little has been done to tame this deadly disease which has become a recurring phenomenon in eastern Uttar Pradesh.
