US Congress Seeks To Abolish Work Visas, International Students Under Threat | India Global

In today's episode of India Global, A storm is brewing over the future of thousands of international STEM students in the United States. A new bill introduced in Congress threatens to eliminate the Optional Practical Training, or OPT, program. It is a lifeline that allows international graduates to work in the U.S. for up to three years after completing their studies. This move comes amid rising anti-immigrant policies, echoing the Trump administration's aggressive stance on immigration. While previous attempts to scrap OPT failed, this time, fear is palpable among students—especially those from India, who make up nearly a third of the 300,000 international students in the U.S. NDTV's Gaurie Dwivedi speaks with Executive Director of North American Association of Indian Students (NAAIS) Sudhanshu Kaushik to discuss this and more.
