The Nishad community makes upto around 3-4% of the population of the state. Their number is not massive, but they are seen politically significant for two reasons. First, they are concentrated in over a dozen seats, mainly in eastern Uttar Pradesh. The second reason is that they are also believed to largely vote as a bloc.
