Uttarakhand: 'Timely police action saved nearly 8,000 lives'

After a warning of heavy showers was issued in Uttarakhand, the police in Kedarnath and nearby areas swung into action, advising tourists and pilgrims to refrain from undertaking the Char Dham Yatra, Rudraprayag Superintendent of Police, Birenderjeet Singh told NDTV. He said that the tourist and local police were constantly providing information and making warning announcements and also helped pilgrims move to higher ground, including inside the Kedarnath temple, which he said helped save several lives.
