A day after calling him the Butcher of Gujarat, Mamata Banerjee called Narendra Modi an "architect of riots", while the Trinamool demanded that Mr Modi apologise to Ms Banerjee for his allegation that a painting by her was sold at a huge price to a man who is now behind bars for cheating lakhs of people of their money. Mr Modi had suggested at a rally in Bengal on Sunday that Ms Banerjee's painting was sold for Rs 1.8 crore to the owner of the Saradha chit fund company. Trinamool insists the allegation is false, so Mr Modi should prove his claim or apologise. The BJP says Mr Modi's attack on Ms Banerjee was not personal. Trinamool's is.
