Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley presented the Union Budget for the 2017-18 financial year that starts on April 1. The first budget since the government announced its ban on old high value notes last year, this year's annual budget also saw two others firsts - the advancement of the presentation date and the merging of the railways budget with the general one. The budget reduced tax rates for those with less than Rs 5 lakh annual income and focused on public spending to counter sluggish private sector investment.
