As assembly by-election results come in, Bihar is the biggest surprise perhaps, with six of the ten assembly seats contested now firmly in Nitish Kumar and Lalu Yadav's kitty, as their joint force did what many thought was impossible. Coming so soon after the Lok Sabha polls, most assumed that assembly by-elections in Punjab, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar would naturally go the same way as the Parliamentary polls. We are now asking what this means for the BJP - did the party get complacent too soon? And how will this impact, if at all, the assembly elections expected later this year?
