Serum Institute of India's chief Adar Poonawalla today congratulated the nation for achieving a billion COVId-19 vaccinations milestone. He also congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on steering the high-population nation towards a fast pace of vaccinations. Mr Poonawalla said the country may explore the possibility of giving booster doses, especially for the elderly. "Yes, India may look at a booster shot, but ethically and humanely, our outlook will be to vaccinate the world, especially Africa with both doses of the vaccine first... That being said, of course we will have more than enough doses available for a booster shot for the elderly and those who need it. For the healthy and young population, we can wait for a year or so before considering a booster dose," Mr Poonawalla told NDTV.
