Describing the National Herald case, in which Congress President Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi are facing an income tax inquiry, as "prima facie strong", Finance Minister Arun Jaitley told NDTV there is no political vendetta guiding the investigation. The minister argued that the Congress had used money that is exempt from taxes to create - what he called - a property company from which commercial rent is obtained. He said, "A political party cannot suddenly use tax-exempt funds to become a property company". He denied, however, that the Enforcement Directorate had registered a preliminary inquiry, saying the matter was with the income tax authorities alone. He also spoke on the deferred Insurance Bill and India's position at the WTO.
