Tonight on The Buck Stops Here:
Will more teeth to NCW curb crimes against women?
Women and Child Development Ministry has prepared a list of amendments to the National Commission for Women Act to give more powers to the statutory body. If the draft proposal is accepted, the NCW will have the sanctity of a civil court and if someone who chooses not to appear before NCW, can be arrested or fined. On The Buck Stops Here, we debate whether these amendments will help in combating violence against women and be a genuine deterrent to those who are criminal in their conduct to women.
Can NDA government re-lay the road to development?
Nitin Gadkari's Surface Transport and Highways Ministry has come out with a white paper on the operations of the National Highway Authority of India. The white paper slams the UPA government for randomly awarding road construction contracts, or holding up projects because of a wrong understanding of court directions and environmental norms. It also suggests corrective action. Does this mean the highway construction in India will finally happen at the rate we need it to not only for economic growth but also for millions of commuters for whom travel on our national highways is nothing short of a nightmare? We debate on The Buck Stops Here.
