An unfortunate tragedy hit Kerala today where over 94 people have died and hundreds more are feared trapped. This happened after heavy rainfall led to major landslides in the state that is facing monsoon fury.
Rescue operations have been hampered by the fact that the landslides have destroyed the main bridge in the region. The army has been called in to build a temporary bridge connecting the disaster site to the nearest town of Chooralmala. Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan promising the best help from the Centre. In fact, four teams from the NDRF, Army, Police and fire force and local volunteers are working tirelessly to save as many lives as possible.
