Goods and Services Tax or GST was launched just after midnight by President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a ceremony at the Central Hall of the Parliament. Ahead of the launch, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley hailed the GST as a that saw India's "best minds" work together. "The consensus highlights India can rise above politics in interest of the nation," he said.
