Noted Indian-American economist Abhijit Banerjee, Esther Duflo and Michael Kremer have jointly won the Nobel prize for economics. The Nobel is for an experimental approach to alleviating poverty. Abhijit is the 8th Indian to win a Nobel prize. Congratulatory messages have been coming in through the day from all quarters, the Prime Minister too tweeted his praise but only a week ago and since 2016, Abhijit Banerjee's views on Modi government's economic policies have been critical. For instance, his views on demonetisation, recently his views on how the economy is in a state of crisis. Will the government now listen to the Nobel prize winner's critique to take corrective steps?
