If you thought the National Green Tribunal's Ban on stubble burning in Punjab and Haryana had helped, think again, because farmers in Punjab burnt their stubble in front of NDTV's cameras in open defiance, making a statement. Farmers claim managing the stubble instead of simply burning it costs them anywhere between Rs 4000-5000 per acre. They ask where will they get that money from? They demand a viable implementable alternative. However, with Punjab government telling NDTV that they have no money to spare, and that they have got no reply from the centre after asking it for 2000 crore each year over a period of three years to be able to put in place the alternatives, the pollution that is caused because of the stubble burning will certainly continue this season.
