In a conversation with NDTV's Vikram Chandra on the sidelines of World Economic Forum (WEF) at Davos, senior economist Joseph Stiglitz said, "India did the Peculiar experiment of demonetisation. People around the world couldn't figure out what you (India) were doing. What you did was hamper the small businesses. You took away the currency that they needed. You (India) didn't solve the problem that you said you were attacking, which was corruption and all that. So, it is a mystery of why you did that to your economy. Despite that, the fundamentals of Indian economy are good. It is doing well. But what bothers me is the agriculture sector because it is not only not growing very fast, but it is also not environmentally sustainable. There is a lack of focus on environmental sustainability."
