Congress MP Rahul Gandhi was found guilty and sentenced to two years in prison on Thursday in a 2019 criminal defamation case over his remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi's surname by a court in Gujarat's Surat. However, he was granted bail and his sentence was suspended for 30 days to let him appeal the decision. The BJP has demanded Mr Gandhi's disqualification from parliament, citing a past court judgement to that said any MP convicted for at least two years in any case should be disqualified. "I would like to reverse the charge and ask the BJP, if the courts have arrived at a certain conclusion, why is the BJP exalting over it so much? There are a series of appeals left," Congress leader Manish Tewari told NDTV.
