Jammu and Kashmir witnessed a drop in locals joining terrorist groups this year. According to the police, only 31 local terrorists are now active in the region. But with local militancy dwindling, battle-hardened foreign terrorists are filling the gap. High on the terror radar is Jammu - especially Poonch, Rajouri district. The region that was largely free from militancy has become the main theatre of violence. While the recent ambush on army and the civilian deaths in army custody brought challenges to the fore, the problem began after the India-Pakistan ceasefire in February 2021.
