The BJP-led Centre abrogated the provisions of Article 370 of the Constitution, which had given special rights to Jammu and Kashmir, in August 2019 and bifurcated the erstwhile state into Union territories.
Omar Abdullah, who now leads the newly elected government of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, had promised during before the recently concluded Assembly elections that if his party came to power, it would pass a resolution in the maiden session of the Assembly against the revocation of Article 370.
