A severe winter storm has thrown life out of gear in more than a dozen states in the United States, affecting more than 60 million people from Kansas in the central US to New Jersey on the east coast. Governors in several states, including Kansas, Kentucky, Arkansas, West Virginia and Virginia, declared a state of emergency. In another development, Louisville residents woke up to several inches of snow on Monday as a major winter blast moved through the commonwealth. The National Weather Service has said that nine inches of snow fell at Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport, setting a one-day record for the date.
