"Won't Align With BJP In Mizoram": Mizo National Front Chief Zoramthanga

It's a now or never election for the Mizo National Front (MNF), the political party that was born out of decade of armed insurgency and a successful peace accord. Both the party and its chief and two-time Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga have been out of power for a decade now. But the 84-year-old still aspires to become the chief minister and says his party would not need support of the BJP. The party can't align with it due to serious religious and ideological differences, he said. Zoramthanga in an exclusive interview to NDTV's Ratnadip Choudhury said that being part of the NDA is only a compulsion to keep the Congress away. The MNF has been among the founding parties of the BJP-led anti-Congress political front in the Northeast - the Northeast Democratic Alliance (NEDA). "We don't like the BJP's Hindutva line, but Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a better choice to lead the country," Zoramthanga said.
