World Powers Impose Sanctions: Will Russia Be Deterred?
People woke up to emergency sirens, explosions, smoke and the announcement of martial law in Ukraine today. The Russian invasion of Ukraine began soon after a televised speech by Russian President Putin asking the Ukrainian troops to lay their arms and return home. Shelling and missile strikes were reported across the country as Russia begins an invasion from land and sea. Ukraine says they have suffered some civilian and military casualties. World powers have condemned the Russian invasion and imposed sanctions, but will this be enough to deter Russia? Also, with many students stranded in Ukraine and an inevitable impact on world economy and crude prices, what are the challenges for India?
