Xi Jinping met his internationally isolated Russian counterpart in Beijing on Wednesday against the backdrop of China's biggest diplomatic event of the year, underlining the close relationship between two leaders amid the war in Ukraine. The timing of this visit ran parallel to US President Joe Biden's trip to Tel Aviv amidst the Israel-Gaza war. Both leaders spoke of a deep friendship as well as a new world order based on deep trust, they also called for a ceasefire in Gaza.
