Brother-sister Chess grandmaster duo of Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa and R Vaishali and team captain Srinath Narayanan were accorded a warm welcome by Chess fans on their return to India in Chennai on the early hours of Tuesday. They were part of the Indian Chess teams that scripted history by winning maiden gold medals in the 45th Chess Olympiad in Budapest in Hungary.
R Praggnanandhaa expressed his delight at winning the Gold medal at the Chess Olympiad and said that the Indian teams gave it their best and dominated at the Olympiad. "First time I won gold in the Chess Olympiad, earlier I was part of the bronze-winning team. We won in both sections so it is a very special feeling and a proud moment for us" said the 19-year-old protege while speaking to PTI videos. He said that Chess Olympiad is a unique competition where players play as part of a team for the country and now the focus will again shift to individual events.
