Over the years, the Indian government and the censor board have banned several movies and documentaries for 'objectionable' content.

India: The Modi Question (2023)
The BBC documentary on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his alleged role in 2002 Gujarat riots was banned by the Indian government.

India's Daughter (2015)
Directed by Leslee Udwin, the movie chronicles the barbaric gangrape of Nirbhaya in Delhi in 2023. The government banned it soon after its release..

Parzania (2005)
Rahul Dholakia's Parzania was never offically banned but cinema owners in Gujarat refused to screen the film despite clearance from the censor board, fearing backlash.

Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love (1996) The movie was banned in India due to its sexual content. Though it was eventually released in 1998 after cuts were made.

Toofan Singh (2016)
Starring Ranjit Bawa, the censor board refused to certify the movie deeming the subject as negatively influential for young cine-goers.

Bandit Queen (1996)
Based on the life of Phoolan Devi, a dacoit-turned-politician, the movie was banned for its content before the Supreme Court intervened and allowed a theatrical re-release.
