All About Mount Everest's "Death Zone"

The "Death Zone" refers to the area of Mount Everest starting from an elevation of above 8,000 metres.

It is the zone where most deaths have occurred during Everest expeditions.

Oxygen Levels are substantially low in this zone due to which climbers are advised not to stay for too long.

Minute by minute, the body begins to perish in this zone. Cells begin deteriorating.

One of the major risk factors in this zone is the risk of frostbite. Temperatures here are said to fall below -30 degrees Celsius.

Since the zone starts at about 8,000 metres, helicopters cannot reach there, leading to a lack of medical assistance or quick rescue.

Aside from altitude, climbers in and around the death zone must also deal with increased UV radiation, which can harm eyesight by reflecting off snow and ice.
