Andhra Pradesh is the only Indian state without an officially designated capital

The state's capital status issue arose after the bifurcation in 2014, creating Telangana

Hyderabad served as the common capital for 10 years

But on June 2, 2024, the deadline ended and Andhra Pradesh was left without a capital

Amaravathi was announced as the state's capital by Chandrababu Naidu, who was the chief minister in 2014

His government acquired land from farmers and roped in Singapore firms to build the "world class city"

But he lost the elections in 2019 and YS Jagan Mohan Reddy came to power

He cancelled all the projects and cut down the budget for the new capital, leading to exit of firms

Then, in 2024, Mr Naidu's TDP won the polls again after which he vowed to rebuild Amaravathi

The project is on with Centre's assistance with hope that Andhra Pradesh will soon get a capital
