Believe it or not, not all blood is red. The life-giving fluid actually comes in different colours, depending on what animal you're talking about

The red colour in our blood comes from haemoglobin, a protein in the red blood cells that distribute oxygen to the entire body

However, not all creatures have red blood. So, here are a few animals that don't have red blood

Horseshoe crabs are deep ocean living creatures who have blue blood instead of red. Their bodies lack haemoglobin and instead have hemocyanin, which makes blood blue

Another animal that does not have red blood is the octopus. These marine creatures have blue blood because their circulatory system uses hemocyanin

The blood of squid is anywhere between dark blue to reddish blue colour. The squid is also a sea creature that lacks haemoglobin

Spider blood is different from human blood in several ways. Unlike human blood, spider blood is pale blue because their bodies have hemocyanin

Lobster blood is colourless but it changes to blue when it comes in contact with oxygen

Brachiopods are ocean-dwelling animals that superficially resemble clams. These shell-like animals have Hemerythrin which makes their blood light yellow
