Experts too have sounded caution and as per a World Economic Forum report, 85 million jobs would be lost to AI worldwide by 2025

But IIT Mandi Director Laxmidhar Behera called AI a "hype" saying tools like ChatGPT are not innately cognitive

He said in an interview that ChatGPT is dumb and doesn't understand the concept. Instead, it just gathers information from voluminous data

Mr Behera added that artificial intelligence is not at a stage where it can really educate students

The educationist said that AI can probably give a finishing touch, but the core engineering discipline cannot be replaced by it

"None of the AI system are innately cognitive. They depend on huge architecture and database to make things possible," said Mr Behera

He also said that the new technologies cannot do research
