Out of its 2 billion accounts globally, about 500 million are in India, as per Forbes. This is also given a boost to tourism

Now, Mumbai-based travel firm India Someday has released a list of top 'Instagrammable' tourist destinations in India

The list is based on hashtags per acre, which has been calculated by dividing the total hashtags by the area in acres of each attraction

Gateway of India is on top with 700,000 hashtags per acre on social media platform, followed by Delhi's Jama Masjid with 359,000 hashtags per acre

Hawa Mahal in Pink City Jaipur is at number 3, receiving 261,326 hashtags per acre. Another of city's attraction, Patrika Gate, Patrika got 186,667 hashtags per acre

Golden Temple is at number 5 with 75,000 hashtags per acre. The site is famous for its gold-plated exterior and the surrounding Amrit Sarovar lake

Taj Mahal, situated in Agra, is ranked sixth with 61,905 hashtags per acre. Crafted in white marble, it attracts millions of visitors each year

City Palace in Udaipur has amassed 50,600 hashtags per acre, settling in at number 7, followed by Nahargarh Fort
