Once the poll dates are anounced, Model Code of Conduct (MCC) comes into effect immediately and will be in place till results are announced

The Model Code of Conduct is a set of guidelines to regulate the campaigning of political parties and candidates during elections

It aims to ensure free and fair elections by preventing any activities that could influence voters or disrupt the poll process

MCC serves as a mechanism to curb any misuse of state machinery and financial resources by the ruling party

The government can't launch new projects, initiate new schemes or make promises related to infrastructure development

Candidates are prohibited from indulging in activity which may aggravate differences, create hatred between different castes and communities

Parties are advised to refrain from commenting on private life of leaders, workers of other parties. Parties must also not resort to bribing and intimidating voters

Use of government resources, including transport, machinery, and security personnel, for election campaigning is not allowed

Use of official mass media to offer biased news coverage in favour of the ruling party is also strictly prohibited
